A Journey into the High Mountains of Ladakh

The expedition journey generally involves travelling towards the Tso Moriri region, with the precise approach depending on the approved climbing route and expedition plan. The remote surroundings provide an introduction to Ladakh's high-altitude environment, where limited vegetation, wide-open landscapes and dramatic mountain formations create a setting unlike the greener Himalayan valleys. The approach to the mountain is an important part of the expedition. Participants must allow their bodies time to adjust to increasing altitude and follow the planned acclimatisation schedule before moving into more demanding terrain. The approach route, base-camp location and climbing stages must be confirmed according to current access, permissions and the selected line of ascent. Once the team reaches base camp, attention shifts towards equipment preparation, route assessment, weather monitoring and climbing preparation. Depending on the chosen route and prevailing conditions, the ascent may involve steep slopes, loose rock, snow, ice or exposed sections. Severe Hypoxia & Altitude Management: Ascending above 6,600 meters in a dry cold desert accelerates dehydration and altitude sickness. Frontpoint Adventures enforces mandatory multi-day acclimatization in Leh and Korzok, daily 4-to-5-liter hydration benchmarks, and twice-daily pulse-oximeter (SpO2) tracking. Glacier Crevasse Safety: The upper slopes of Chamser Kangri feature hidden crevasses masked by wind-drift snow. Moving roped up in designated teams of two or three is strictly enforced above crampon point. Unroped glacier movement is prohibited. Turnaround Cutoff (TAT): A non-negotiable summit turnaround cutoff of 9:30 AM is strictly enforced. Any climber who has not breached the upper summit ridge by this cutoff must reverse course with their dedicated guide to prevent descent during dangerous afternoon gale-force winds.
